The rules and guidelines for using LawpalAI

Last updated: July 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the LawpalAI website and AI legal assistant (the "Service"), provided by LawpalAI ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). Please read them carefully.

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of a law firm or other organization, you confirm you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll provide additional notice. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

2. Service Description

LawpalAI is an AI legal assistant built for Nigerian law, providing legal research, document drafting, and document review through a chat interface, grounded in an indexed library of Nigerian case law, statutes, and legal texts. The Service includes:

  • AI-assisted legal research with citations to case law and statutes
  • Drafting of contracts, agreements, letters, and court processes
  • Review and analysis of documents you upload
  • Individual accounts and law firm accounts with team management

We may add, change, or discontinue features of the Service at any time. We'll aim to give reasonable notice of changes that materially reduce functionality you rely on.

3. Not Legal Advice

Important

LawpalAI is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Output from the Service — including research answers, drafts, and document reviews — is informational and does not constitute legal advice, create an attorney-client relationship, or amount to legal representation.

Output from the Service is generated by AI and, despite being grounded in real legal sources, may still contain errors or omissions. It is not a substitute for advice from a qualified, licensed lawyer, and should not be relied on as the sole basis for a legal decision. Always have a qualified lawyer review anything with real legal or financial consequences before you act on it.

No attorney-client relationship is formed by using the Service, and communications with LawpalAI are not covered by attorney-client privilege. See our Disclaimer for further detail.

4. Accounts

To use most features of the Service, you need an account, created with an email and password or through Google sign-in. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date.

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account

Law firm accounts may designate administrators who can invite team members and manage their access. Firm administrators are responsible for the conduct of members they invite under their account.

We may suspend or terminate an account if information provided is false or misleading, or if these Terms are violated.

5. Subscriptions & Billing

LawpalAI offers a free plan (Legal Explorer) and paid plans (Associate, Partner, and custom Law Enterprise plans for organizations), described on our Pricing page. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually, in Naira, and processed securely through Paystack.

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled beforehand
  • You can change or cancel your plan at any time from your account settings
  • Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access to paid features until the end of the period already paid for
  • Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or expressly stated otherwise

We may change plan pricing going forward; we'll give notice before a price change affects your existing subscription.

6. Acceptable Use

When using the Service, you agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to facilitate fraud or the unauthorized practice of law
  • Upload documents you don't have the right to share, or that infringe another party's rights
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the underlying models or data behind the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or related systems
  • Misrepresent AI-generated output as independently verified legal advice to a third party without appropriate review

We may suspend or terminate access for accounts that violate this section.

7. Content & Intellectual Property

Your content. You retain ownership of the documents, queries, and any material you submit to LawpalAI ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to process Your Content solely to provide the Service to you.

Generated output. Subject to these Terms, you may use drafts, research, and analysis generated for your account for your own purposes, including professional and commercial use.

Our platform. The LawpalAI name, logo, website, and underlying software are owned by LawpalAI and protected by intellectual property law. Nothing in these Terms grants you rights to our trademarks, branding, or platform technology beyond what's needed to use the Service.

8. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated output will be complete or accurate in every case.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LawpalAI will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including reliance on AI-generated research, drafts, or reviews without independent legal review. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of the above may not apply to you.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the security or integrity of the Service, with notice where reasonably practicable.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law — will continue to apply after your account is closed.

10. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Lagos State, Nigeria, unless otherwise required by applicable law.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. For material changes, we will provide reasonable advance notice before they take effect.
