How LawpalAI collects, uses, and protects your information

Last updated: July 2026

Your Privacy Matters

This Privacy Policy explains how LawpalAI ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information when you use our website and AI legal assistant (the "Service"). It applies to visitors, registered users, and law firm accounts. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in three broad categories:

Account Information

  • Name and email address
  • Password (hashed) or OAuth identity from Google
  • Law firm name and role, for firm accounts
  • Billing details processed by our payment provider, Paystack

Content You Provide

  • Chat messages, research questions, and drafting instructions
  • Documents you upload for review (PDF, Word)
  • Drafts and research generated in your account
  • Feedback you give on AI responses

Usage & Device Data

  • IP address, browser type, and device information
  • Pages visited, features used, and timestamps
  • Login activity, for account security

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the Service — process your chats, research, drafting, and document review requests
  • Maintain your account, authenticate sign-ins, and administer firm/team access
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions through Paystack
  • Monitor, secure, and improve the reliability and quality of the Service
  • Respond to support requests and send you service-related communications
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations

3. How Your Content Is Processed by AI

To generate research, drafts, and document reviews, the text of your messages and uploaded documents is sent to the AI models that power LawpalAI's responses, along with supporting infrastructure for document text extraction and search. These providers process your content solely to return a response to you, under contractual confidentiality obligations — they do not use your content to market to you.

Your private chats and documents are not used to train our AI models without your explicit permission.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information or documents. We share information only with:

  • Service providers who host our infrastructure, process payments (Paystack), or provide the AI models and document-processing services that power the Service — bound by confidentiality obligations
  • Your law firm administrators, if you belong to a firm account, to the extent needed for team management and usage visibility
  • Authorities, where disclosure is required to comply with a legal obligation, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of LawpalAI or others
  • A successor entity, in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy continuing to apply

5. Data Security

We protect your information with technical and organizational measures designed to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or loss, including:

Technical Measures

  • Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest
  • Strict, role-based access controls internally
  • A zero-access policy on infrastructure that stores your data

Operational Measures

  • Enterprise-grade cloud hosting infrastructure
  • Account lockout after repeated failed login attempts
  • Ongoing monitoring for suspicious account activity

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

6. Data Retention

We keep your chats, documents, and drafts for as long as your account is active, so you can return to them at any time. You can delete an individual chat or document whenever you like. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data and content from active systems within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain records for longer (for example, payment records for tax and accounting purposes).

7. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law — including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and, for users in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, the GDPR — you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to, or request that we restrict, certain processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent

You can exercise most of these rights directly from your account settings, or by contacting us using the details below.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling essential cookies may prevent parts of the Service from working correctly.

9. Children's Privacy

LawpalAI is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We will update the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes, we will provide additional notice such as an in-app or email notification.
